Faro Marina Doca de Faro

Walking from Faro Marina to the Old Town

A flat, step-free walking route from Faro Marina (Doca de Faro) into the historic centre — Praça Dom Francisco Gomes, Arco da Vila, Faro Cathedral and the Old Town streets.

The route

Start at the marina waterfront and cross Praça Dom Francisco Gomes. Continue to the Arco da Vila, the neoclassical gate into the walled Old Town, then on to Faro Cathedral (Sé). The whole loop is roughly 500 m of flat pavement — about a 10-minute stroll.

Praça Dom Francisco Gomes

The square in front of the marina is the natural meeting point: shaded benches, the Arco da Vila to one side, and views across the water. It is where most visitors pause before heading into the centre.

Arco da Vila

Designed by Italian architect Francisco Xavier Fabri in 1812 at the invitation of Bishop D. Francisco Gomes, this neoclassical arch is Faro’s most representative landmark and the formal entrance to the Old Town.

Faro Cathedral and the Old Town

A short walk past the arch brings you to the Sé and the tangle of whitewashed alleys, cafés and small shops inside the walls. Cobblestones begin here, so wheeled luggage is easiest handled before you enter.
